Course Breakdown
The course spans 28 hours and covers the Florida State curriculum required for the Statewide Firearms License application, ensuring participants meet all legal training prerequisites.
Days 1 & 2 (20 Hours)
Class Room & Virtual Scenarios
You’ll learn the theoretical aspects of firearms handling, safety, and legal considerations pertinent to armed security work in Florida. Topics include firearm mechanics, maintenance, legal statutes governing the use of force, and conflict de-escalation techniques.
Leveraging Decision Tactical’s state-of-the-art virtual training environment, the course incorporates immersive scenarios that simulate real-life situations. This innovative approach allows participants to practice verbal commands, judgmental shooting, and decision-making under stress, providing a safe yet realistic training experience.
Day 3 (8 Hours)
Live-Fire Session
You will be able to apply your learned skills in a controlled, live-fire environment. This session focuses on shooting accuracy, weapon handling under pressure, and safety protocols, ensuring participants are well-prepared for real-world applications.
Upon completing the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion from Valortec, qualifying them to apply for the Florida Statewide Firearms License.
Course Location
The classroom and scenario portions of the training will be held at Decision Tactical, a state-of-the-art training facility in Sanford, Florida.
The live-fire session day will be held at Volusia County Gun Club.
Course Requirements
All Participants Must:
- Be 21+ years of age & a U.S. citizen or legal resident
- Be legally allowed to own a firearm in the state of Florida
- Bring their firearm & gear (no rentals will be provided)
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident.
- Be able to operate a firearm safely
- Complete a liability waiver before the start of the class
- Hold a valid Class D security officer license, unless you have a Private Investigator License (C) or (CC) [Security License Florida].
- Bring a government-issued ID
Firearm & Ammo Requirements:
- Semi-auto Pistol (9MM, .357, or .45ACP)
- 150 rounds of ammunition
- Outside the Waistband Holster
- (3) Magazines
- Magazine Holster that’s capable of holding 2 magazines.
- A Sturdy Belt (able to hold up the weight of your gear)
- Eye & Ear Protection
