I had an incredible experience training with Valortec. From start to finish, the team was professional, knowledgeable, and truly invested in our growth. Herfel Torres, the head trainer, along with PJ and Carlos, the assistant trainers, brought an amazing combination of military and law enforcement expertise to the course.

What really stood out was the small group setting, which lowed for personalized, one-on-one instruction. They took the time to break everything down, from stance, grip, and eye acquisition to integrating all the pistol mechanics into a smooth, confident foundation. You can tell they are passionate about teaching and committed to helping every student succeed.

Herfel’s sense of humor also kept the class fun and engaging, making it an even better learning environment. It’s rare to find instructors who can be so knowledgeable yet still make you laugh and stay relaxed under pressure.

If you’re serious about improving your skills and want top-tier training from instructors with real-world experience, I can’t recommend Valortec enough. Looking forward to continuing my training journey with them!

If more than 5 stars were possible, I would give them. This was an entirely new discipline than anything I have experienced before. Herfel brought in the world-reknown Jeff Johnsgaard to expose us to this unique learning process for close contact self-defense. Everything about it was new, challenging and thought provoking on many levels. It’s application in many real-life situations becomes readily apparent. Herfel and Jeff are a superb team and this class should be offered on a frequent basis for an opportunity to hone ones skills.

Having taken classes with the Valortec team before, I knew the level of training would be unsurpassed. Herfel and his team teach at the highest and most authentic level possible, not from earning an instructors’ certification, but having real-life experience. This course of training was above and beyond any that I have taken with Valortec to date. The Decision Tactical facility where this class is offered is amazing. It is enormous, new and high tech with multiple avenues for simulation training.
Valortec’s class presents multiple, ever-changing deadly threat scenarios taken from true accounts, projected on a life-sized screen in high-res. The experience feels extremely real. The object is to access the situation quickly and identify the source(s) of threat(s), issue commands to try to deescalate the situation and eliminate the threat with force, if necessary. It was an eye-opener to see how quickly a threat can arise and how situationally aware one must be to accurately analyze the situation and timely react. It is an entirely different scenario than shooting paper targets on the range imagining a threat exists. And, it impresses one with how important this level of training is to protect oneself and loved ones. As an older woman, I cannot say enough about how valuable this course was to me. As mothers, grandmothers, friends, and family, it is an excellent opportunity to become more aware of our surroundings and to learn to protect ourselves, our children, significant others etc. in a safe environment.
In addition to all the above, the class is fun! Herfel and his team present the class in a very low-key way with good humor and encouragement. There is no pressure or intimation; just an enjoyable atmosphere conducive to getting the most out of the opportunity. I MOST strongly recommend it to all ladies interested in furthering their education and training.

This was a true “Advanced” Pistol Defense course. All the students in the class were very good shooters and thereby allowed the class drills to progress quickly. Benchmarks were recorded at the beginning of the class with cold start shooting scores and were measured at the end of the day with the same drills being shot. Significant improvements were seen across the board. The instructors provided feedback on making minor adjustments to grip, stance, and target transition which in turn increased accuracy and speed of all students. Herfel, Jose, Carlos, and Will did an excellent job of running the class, providing feedback and pushing each of us. Great class! Highly recommend for those looking to up their speed, accuracy and overall shooting performance.

If you really want training that will test your skills sign up for the Night Fire / Low visibility Pistol class. This class will not only enhance your skills but challenges you with the need to push yourself with each training drill. I cannot say enough good about the instructors. They are professional, experienced in the real world of firearm usage, and explained the training clearly. They provided feedback after each training segment and comments on how to correct or to improve our abilities. ( I learned multiple improvements). If you have not trained in low light, semi dark and full darkness with and without ambient light you need this class! You will be taught how to use a hand held light and operate with a pistol light properly. Perform a test in your home : pretend that someone just broke into your home you get out of bed and walk with a toy gun around your home in the dark to protect your family ( the power is off), imagine are you truly ready for this situation, (be honest). SIGN UP for the next class . You will be glad that you did after taking the training. There is a huge difference between night and day, especially with shooting . I plan on signing up again for this class and also some of the classes that these instructors offer at the Volusia Gun club.

Today I feel like the fundamentals of movement all came together from the Pistol Basics and the Alumni Drills to today with Rifle Fundamentals this the a ROCK SOLID and CORRECT way to move with a firearm. Economy of motion. Master the Basics! Great Lesson!

The instructors were great! Herfel, Will, Jaylin, and Carlos!!!!!
They were all funny, personable, on point with the right amount of seriousness. They also made an effort to check in with us & ask how we were doing periodically. I am a BEGINNER & thought it was neat to also be in a class with those who are not. The moving & shooting was the best part. The ability to try different shooting techniques was great. Learning a little of the legal side was also beneficial as well. I know most were not as lucky around the range but having a covered spot that shielded us from the elements was GREAT! I have told dozens about this class- posted videos of what it looked like to show the various levels of experience present. I am one who doesn’t shoot in groups. It’s always been on private property. It took a LOT out of me to show up in a group & trust I was safe. We joked in the class as a generalization but now a days you can never be too careful. It can be terrifying to be around strangers you don’t know, w/ loaded guns. However, we’ll worth the money and I will be signing up again soon!! Thank you!

Had an amazing time. But instructors were very knowable and communicated techniques, cues, and tips in a way that was easy to understand and implement into shooting. Looking forward to doing more trainings with Valortec!

This was my first class with Herfel and it was an excellent experience. I’ve taken a few other private classes before with other instructors. Herfel has the benefit of instructing from not only a competitive perspective and the techniques that benefit that type of training but also he’s got an extensive background in the legal, law enforcement side of things as well. He offered lots of information that I hadn’t received in other classes. The information ranged from home defense situations, conceal carrying tips and legalities as well as the traditional training on stance, form and target acquisition. Herfel’s professionalism shines through not only with the effectiveness of his feedback but also maintaining a personable relationship with his students. I never felt like I was messing up because his constructive criticism enhanced and built upon the skills that I had through understanding. Where other instructors could easily make you feel less competent, Herfel reassures and recommends solutions that improve performance throughout the class and afterward. I can’t wait to take another class with him to learn more from such an accomplished and brilliant instructor.

Rifle Fundamentals class review - I’ve attended other classes through Valortec but this was the 1st rifle class I’ve taken with them. The class began with the usual safety fundamentals and progressed quickly to grip, stance, mechanics and movement. It allowed me to evaluate my strengths and weaknesses thereby giving me the specific information I need to practice to become a better shooter. Herfel did a great job breaking down each weakness and reinforcing the corrections needed. The class exceeded my expectations and was a lot of fun. Herfel and Carlos provide constructive feedback to push each students limits. You will leave this class with the knowledge and skill to become a much better shooter. Highly recommend.

Herfel is a wealth of knowledge. My son and I both learned invaluable lessons in our chats about carrying a weapon. His patients in teaching us proper technics with both our pistols and shot gun. I will use him again as we go further in our training in being proficient with weapons and I would recommend him to anyone beginner to professional.

Todays class was great. Way better than I even expected. Herfel and Will both did an amazing job. From the safety briefing until the end, they gave you the tools you needed to complete the course of fire and instill a defensive mindset approach to protecting ones self and loved ones. Theses lessons from today I will take forward in my learning and practice moving forward in my training. 5 stars plus. Great class.

This weekend we attended the basic defensive pistol course and I can confidently say that this was hands down the best firearms instruction I have ever received! Herfel and his team present the material in a real life relatable manner. Not only does he tell you what to do/change/improve, but he tells you why which is important in understanding the connection of the firearm to your body. Herfel is extremely knowledgeable on the biomechanics related to shooting and presents them in a practical manner that makes things click. My fiancee and I both saw marked improvements in one day of instruction.

These guys make it a fun class, and share their real life experiences to help even the beginner shooter progress into a tactical defensive shooter.

They provide a low instructor to student ratio. In my class it was 1:1. Every student is given individualized feedback to allow them to improve. When my partners gun was obviously not a good fit for her these guys let her try some other options to figure out what size pistol she needed.

If you’re looking to sit in a classroom all day, this isn’t the course for you. If you’re looking to spend the day on the range running drills, clearing the shoot house, and gaining knowledge through demonstrated skills then this is the place to do it.

We’re already looking forward to and planning to come back for the advanced class after spending some time practicing what we learned this weekend.

This training class is amazing. This training teaches awareness and stopping the threat in real life scenarios. Would highly suggest taking this training class. Herfel and Will are professional instructors , they are the best of best at defense threat training.
