Herfel Torres provided an extremely knowledgeable, skill-based, detailed, comprehensive, and, yes, fun 2-day Advanced Pistol Defense class.
The amount of information shared was huge and all of it “spot on”. After clear and succinct instructions re: each new training module (eg stance), followed by demonstrations from our instructor, Herfel, students were given plenty of live fire opportunities to practice and assess their level of understanding of that particular new training module. Students pairing up to carefully watch each other, assess, and give valuable input truly enhanced the learning experience
Herfel’s class content was organized, moved at an optimal pace (not too slow and not too fast), and covered a variety of topics and concepts important and integral to success in self-defense, stressing and emphasizing above all, the importance of having solid fundamentals in the skills that go into marksmanship, gun handling, and mind-set. And throughout the two days, Herfel remained patient, answering questions right and left, supportive, positive, and upbeat, displaying a wonderful sense of humor which put all students at ease.
Ending the 2-day class with multiple runs through a shoot house allowed each student to try to utilize and put into use each of the topics covered. It was a unique opportunity to blend together all the new skills practiced and covered, and to clearly see what worked and what didn’t work.
Herfel’s three assistants, Carlos, Domingo, and Jalen, were likewise outstanding in their willingness and ability to help and freely gave excellent assistance to all students present.
I strongly recommend this class to whomever is ready to get their self-defense skills to the next level.

I had an incredible experience training with Valortec. From start to finish, the team was professional, knowledgeable, and truly invested in our growth. Herfel Torres, the head trainer, along with PJ and Carlos, the assistant trainers, brought an amazing combination of military and law enforcement expertise to the course.

What really stood out was the small group setting, which lowed for personalized, one-on-one instruction. They took the time to break everything down, from stance, grip, and eye acquisition to integrating all the pistol mechanics into a smooth, confident foundation. If more than 5 stars were possible, I would give them. This was an entirely new discipline than anything I have experienced before. Herfel brought in the world-reknown Jeff Johnsgaard to expose us to this unique learning process for close contact self-defense. Everything about it was new, challenging and thought provoking on many levels. It’s application in many real-life situations becomes readily apparent. Herfel and Jeff are a superb team and this class should be offered on a frequent basis for an opportunity to hone ones skills.

Today I feel like the fundamentals of movement all came together from the Pistol Basics and the Alumni Drills to today with Rifle Fundamentals this the a ROCK SOLID and CORRECT way to move with a firearm. Economy of motion. Master the Basics! Great Lesson!

This course was very comprehensive. The way of explaining and teaching was excellent. We learned many fundamentals, and most importantly, why and when to use them. Various exercises were performed that were very valuable for understanding what was being taught. The trainer and his assistants demonstrated vast experience in what they taught. I highly recommend them. I will check other dates to take more training sessions.

This was my first class with Herfel and it was an excellent experience. I’ve taken a few other private classes before with other instructors. Herfel has the benefit of instructing from not only a competitive perspective and the techniques that benefit that type of training but also he’s got an extensive background in the legal, law enforcement side of things as well. He offered lots of information that I hadn’t received in other classes. The information ranged from home defense situations, conceal carrying tips and legalities as well as the traditional training on stance, form and target acquisition. Herfel’s professionalism shines through not only with the effectiveness of his feedback but also maintaining a personable relationship with his students. I never felt like I was messing up because his constructive criticism enhanced and built upon the skills that I had through understanding. Where other instructors could easily make you feel less competent, Herfel reassures and recommends solutions that improve performance throughout the class and afterward. I can’t wait to take another class with him to learn more from such an accomplished and brilliant instructor.

This weekend we attended the basic defensive pistol course and I can confidently say that this was hands down the best firearms instruction I have ever received! Herfel and his team present the material in a real life relatable manner. Not only does he tell you what to do/change/improve, but he tells you why which is important in understanding the connection of the firearm to your body. Herfel is extremely knowledgeable on the biomechanics related to shooting and presents them in a practical manner that makes things click. My fiancee and I both saw marked improvements in one day of instruction.

These guys make it a fun class, and share their real life experiences to help even the beginner shooter progress into a tactical defensive shooter.

They provide a low instructor to student ratio. In my class it was 1:1. Every student is given individualized feedback to allow them to improve. When my partners gun was obviously not a good fit for her these guys let her try some other options to figure out what size pistol she needed.

If you’re looking to sit in a classroom all day, this isn’t the course for you. If you’re looking to spend the day on the range running drills, clearing the shoot house, and gaining knowledge through demonstrated skills then this is the place to do it.

We’re already looking forward to and planning to come back for the advanced class after spending some time practicing what we learned this weekend.

I loved the class it’s the 2nd class I have took with Herfel Torres, I love how he gets into the science of it, next class for me will be low Light Carbine, I can’t wait, anyone who carries a firearm need to take the Low Light class.

Excellent class covering the fundamentals of stance and grip. I highly recommend this class for anyone serious about improving their fundamentals. Herfel did an excellent job accommodating the needs of each individual student based on their skill level.
