What is NRA First Steps?

NRA First Steps is a 4-hour pistol workshop where you’ll learn how to identify the parts of, safely handle, shoot, and maintain a pistol. You’ll receive valuable resources such as the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, the NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, and the NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, to enrich your learning journey.

This class is for you if you have little to no experience with firearms and want to get acquainted with pistols before practicing more advanced skills.

Upon successful completion, you will receive the FIRST Steps Course completion certificate, recognized and esteemed in the firearm community. More importantly, this course fulfills the requirements for applying for a concealed carry permit in the State of Florida.n

In NRA First Steps you will learn

• To identify the parts of a pistol and their function
• The universal firearms safety rules
• How to safely handle a pistol
• The fundamentals of accurately shooting a pistol

To attend NRA First Steps, you must:

• Be at least 21 years old and a legal US Citizen/Resident. (Due to the Department of State ITAR regulations, tactical training is only available to US Citizens/Legal Residents. By registering for this class, the student attests that they are at least 18 years of age and a legal US Citizen/resident.)
• Be legally permitted to own a firearm in the state of Florida. (By registering for this course, the student further attests that they are legally permitted to own a firearm in the state of Florida)
• Complete a liability waiver before the start of the class

For NRA First Steps, you must bring:

• A valid driver's license or government issue ID
• Comfortable, closed-toe, sturdy shoes. No sandals or open-toed shoes.
• Water & snacks (for the duration of the class)
• All firearms and training tools will be provided by Valortec. You are not required to bring your firearm.
